Hi Keren,
Gavin has started to sing a lot; starting very early in the morning (sigh) and ending very late at night. On Sunday night, it was the grace that the kids sing when they put their money into the little church on Sunday mornings. You know…
Long ago the Lord made us
And He’s loved us ever since.
Even though we stray
His love is here to stay
And so we give some back to him.
Well, for some reason I couldn’t understand, Gavin was singing it through, repeatedly ending it with the line:
“And Ekko gives some back to him.”
When I asked him why, he said:
“Ekko’s the big sister, and Zoey’s the little sister. Ekko needs to have a turn too.”
I was mystified. Then I went over the song in my head, line by line, and talked with him some more. Apparently, his understanding of the song had been:
“Even though we stray
His love is here to stay
And Zoey gives some back to him!”
So there you go, he’s keeping your big girl in mind, and she’s having a turn to give back too!
Have a good day,
Debbie

My darling little girl, you have been itching for ages to have a loose tooth. I think ever since your birthday a couple years ago when Auntie Garfus gave you that book with the story of a girl who lost her first tooth. Many of your school friends have lost teeth and you have asked me repeatedly when you would.Well, it finally happened! First day back to school after Christmas holidays and you were excited. I went to pick you up at Lena’s house after work, and you showed me a wiggly tooth. It was crooked in the bottom of your mouth and a little bloodied. You said it felt weird. When I told you it was loose, you danced with glee. Everybody at Lena’s got a glimpse of your wiggly tooth! In the process of showing it off and pushing it around with your tongue, the tooth actually came right out. You were so happy, so delighted. You danced and shrieked with glee. Melissa helped you stick some Kleenex in the hole to stop the bleeding and you did the tour of the house again with the tooth in your hand.
All the way home from Lena’s you walked with your shoulders straight. You discussed things like adult teeth, and tooth fairies. You giggled and danced, and never once asked to be carried. When we got home, you called Auntie Becky to tell her the dramatic news. You gave her blow by blow accounts of the event, and included all sorts of details like which finger was the right size to fit into the hole. You were precious (and on the phone for nearly half an hour).
After you were in bed, you called me back to ask if the tooth fairy was real. When I said it was real if you wanted it to be real, you said “so it isn’t. It’s like Santa Claus.” But this morning you were very thrilled to discover the tooth fairy had left a little treasure for you under your pillow. I heard you shriek in a half awake way nearly half an hour before you normally wake up as you discovered the tooth was missing from under your pillow. You said “it moved. It’s not here. There’s money and a tomato. She’s been here!!!” (there was no tomato. I left you a little orange because you told me the tooth fairy now is apparently leaving money and a healthy snack.) Zoe is dying to have a tooth come out. She’s so enamoured by how happy you are!
At school today you decided not to tell anyone but to see if anybody noticed. Your little mouth is so full of teeth, and this is a tiny spot on the bottom. But you spent the day smiling fiercely to show off that hole. Other parents were commenting to me how happy you were as you were so smiley today! Oh my precious girl. It is so wonderful to be your mom and share your boundless joy. I love how full of joy and wonder you are.

Well, you may be wondering, where in the world have we gone? We are still here, but Dove is addicted to Facebook now, so she’s hardly posting any of the cute Ekko and Zoe stuff that normally garnish these pages. Videos and pictures are posted on Facebook now because it’s a bit more private. Of course, it really isn’t but we’ll fool ourselves for now that it is. ![]()
And me? I am writing Geek Love Notes to Dove. Most of you probably know that, but if you haven’t seen me pour out my affection in the only way I know how (virtually), then you should check it out.

Well beauty, it’s been a week. A week of Grade 1, can you believe it? We were wondering how you would do, it being a full day and all.
Back in kindergarten, half day, it was a stretch for you. You would come home exhausted, but as the years went on you got stronger and stronger. Dove put you in Dance camp in August, and you did marvelous.
And now, you seem to be doing fine with Grade 1, despite the fact you have gym four days out of the five and mom had to look into getting you new clothes because you cannot wear skirts (because we can’t trust those boys who like to look up dresses) and that’s ALL you like to wear. Fortunately, the Fawcetts gave us some hand-me-downs which will save our pocketbooks.
Of course, when I ask you about Grade 1, you can’t remember anything. I asked your friend David if he liked it, and he was happy about Pizza Day. Pizza Day isn’t happening until September 25th, but he’s pretty excited about it.
Zoe is now 3, and you, already in Grade 1. My children are growing up and life is going by so fast.
You’re a meat child. You love meat. Your favourite restaurant is Korean Barbecue now. Everytime we go, all you do is eat short ribs. You always want to eat steak. That’s my girl.
Dove has been trying to find some ballet class to put you in because she accidentally booked you for a class in January….an intermediate class no less. Of course, there isn’t available classes now, and she was going to try and find some martial arts class to put you in. But, I think she couldn’t find anything, so we’ll stick to the piano lessons that the school is offering. Good thing we live in Toronto, I don’t know if I could afford all these extra-curricular activities.
Well, it’s been a long time since anyone has posted on the website, so I figured I may as well. Mommy is addicted to Facebook, so she’s on there all the time. I don’t know what’s she’s doing on there.

So I’m at work, and my boss wants me to put up my 1xY video on YouTube. Which I did, and since I had all these other videos, I decided to put them up too.
You can find the videos at the menu on the side. Since some people was wondering where the “Growing Elumirs” video was, it’s now available!

That’s right! A whole host of photos on Flickr for you to enjoy! Heck, someone even commented on one of Zoe’s pics! That’s what we get when I make them public.I find Flickr very…hard to use though. I mean it’s easy, but I never seem to find what I want to find, and I now just found out I’m only allowed 3 sets in the basic flickr account. So I changed the sets around. One for Ekko, one for Zoe and another for Sister shots.
My girls are cute, that’s for sure!

Dearest growing girl, my big little beauty is a precious one. You are growing so fast. Last week Daddy and I got to sit in on your class at school for an afternoon. It was fun to watch you interact with your friends. You and Sophie talk way too much but the teacher seems to be able to handle you. You were thrilled beyond measure when Sophie invited you for a play date for last Friday’s PA day. What a delightful day for my girl!
On Saturday we went to Bruce Mills for the maple syrup festival. Both of my girls were delighted by the horses and ponies. When we went to get on the wagon for the horse/wagon ride, you managed to get yourself right up at the front by the driver. He actually remembered you from last year and started talking to me about you. He was impressed with your love of horses. You were very sweet with James too. I think you love mothering all the younger kids around.
On Sunday we celebrated Palm Sunday at church and by Monday you were asking when we could have another Palm Sunday. The whole palm branch waving and parade thingy really made you happy. It is good to see you enjoy church so much.
You have been playing super well with Zoe these days too. It is neat how you take turns with being ‘the mommy and the baby” or the dog and owner or… You guys really enjoy yourselves together. Many days when you go off to school, Zoe begs that it please be March break again so you can stay home.
Today you started skating lessons. It was hard work and you were pooched by the end but you loved it so much. A couple of times you turned around on the rink and gave me the thumbs up sign.
I love you precious dove. You are such a tender sweet thing. I want you to always be as sweet as you are now. - Love, Mommy

My Zoe is the singingest child I know. The other day it was pouring rain and we were home alone doing stuff. I think I was cleaning the bathroom and you were playing in your room. I could hear you singing so I went to peek and watch you. There you were, standing up by the window with the Baby Beluga book and singing at the top of your lungs. When I said “nice singing Zoe”, you told me that the rain looked lonely so you were singing to the rain. Another morning you were up with a book singing to Cedarvale. You sang song after song to the bird and I am not sure which one of you enjoyed it more. I think you are such a lovely little girl. Bless you my singer. - Mommy

Last night Ekko was trying very hard to learn how to skip. It wasn’t working very well and she was getting very frustrated. I tried to explain that everybody learns different things at different rates. So just because her friends at school might be able to skip better than she can doesn’t mean she’s dumb. I went on to explain that Daddy could play the piano and mommy can’t.
Zoe interupted and assured me that I could play the piano. “all you need to do is sit down by the piano and put your fingers on the things and wiggle them like this. that’s how you play it”.
Ekko didn’t find this funny enough to cheer up but Mommy and Daddy both did! - Love you girls - Mommy

Hey Zo-zo, you can at times be incredibly sweet. Daddy’s auntie Julie is quite sick and has come to Canada for medical treatment. Every night Daddy prays for several folks we know who are sick and for some reason, Auntie Julie’s name has caught your attention. (I think you are fascinated by the concept that Daddy has an auntie just like you do.) If Daddy starts to pray and doesn’t bring up Auntie Julie fast enough, you jump in to remind him. Yesterday morning you were in great form creating a very large picture on the living room floor. When I said it was beautiful you told me that it was for Auntie Julie. You wanted to mail it to her so that she would be happy. We put it in the mail yesterday and you were so satisfied with a job well done. It was precious to see.
I love you sweet one. - Mommy
